DW Project/Work Requests
For planned and unplanned IT project requests, Team Dynamix is the entry source for Data Warehouse work requests.
The types of requests that are included, (but not limited to) changes or enhancements to existing dashboards, queries, reports, or pivots;
new dashboards, queries, reports or pivots; new or removal of tables or views; and the addition or removal of data elements on tables or views.
When the Data Warehouse receives a request directly from a campus customer, we will contact the data owner/custodian or subject matter contact.
The data owner/custodian/subject matter contact needs to be involved in the process working with the customer. The custodial area will
then submit a project request into Team Dynamix if required to fulfill the request.
Planned Project Requests
Annually, during the Budget and Planning process, IT embarks upon a capacity planning process with many of the Information Technology stakeholders on campus.
This process includes stakeholders submitting project work requests, reviewing the requests, estimating resources, and calculating cost-benefits.
The result of this process is a list of projects that can now go thru a capacity planning excercise to determine if enough IT & Business resources are available
to complete the work. To accomplish this capacity planning excercise we utilize a software tool called Team Dynamix. This process begins in February each year.
In the end, we have a list of projects that we can begin to work on in the new Fiscal Year. To submit your request, see our Report Request Form, and
put "Fiscal Year Planning" in the detail section of the request.
Unplanned Project Requests
Work request proposals can be entered and submitted throughout the year. When a request is
submitted after the planning cycle, the request will have to be prioritized into the remaining project requests,
based on the current workload and resource availability.
Emergency / Production Work Stoppage
On occasion, there may be an emergency request or production work stoppage. There are varying degrees of what may be considered a work stoppage.
For instance, a problem or issue may impact one person, a department, or the entire campus. For the Data Warehouse team, this includes,
(but is not limited to), data warehouse nightly refresh jobs abending, MyReports server errors,
data warehouse tables and views with empty, missing or incomplete data from the nightly refresh,
MyReports (Hyperion) plug-in problems, or a dashboard, query or report not functioning as designed.
An additional component to consider in the priority of an emergency request is the time in which the system has been in the current state.
This type of work request comes into the Data Warehouse unit via a Service Desk Request.
This can be submitted by calling your department's IT help desk, or by directly sending an email to consult@syr.edu.
